Introduced by Gucci in 2006 under Frida Giannini, the Indy quickly became one of the most recognisable handbags of the house’s mid-2000s era. Its softly curved, hobo-inspired silhouette, structured arched handle and distinctive tassel detailing reflect Giannini’s more expressive, bohemian approach to Gucci, drawing on the house’s heritage while embracing the glamour of the 2000s.
This particular Indy is especially striking for its rich burgundy wool textile body, finished with an intricate tonal motif and contrasted against black leather trim. The combination gives the bag a depth and texture that feels particularly distinctive against the more familiar leather and monogram variations of the Indy.
The detailing is characteristically Gucci, with a substantial leather tassel finished with bamboo accents, engraved gold-tone hardware and protective metal side plates.
